Southwest Ohio is no stranger to severe weather. Dayton, OH, sits in Montgomery County, where heavy thunderstorms, hail, high winds, and occasional tornado activity can strike throughout the year. Storm damage can affect multiple systems of a home at once, from the roof and gutters to the walls, windows, and foundation. The faster a trained restoration team arrives, the better the chance of limiting secondary damage and keeping repair costs manageable.

Greater Dayton Construction Group delivers Storm Damage Restoration in Dayton, OH, with a “One Call Does It All” approach that keeps homeowners working with a single trusted team from the emergency call through the final walkthrough.

What Storm Damage Can Affect in Your Dayton Home

Storm damage can touch nearly every part of a property in a matter of minutes. Common issues Dayton-area homeowners face after severe weather include:

  • Roof damage from hail, wind, or fallen tree limbs that expose the home’s interior.
  • Water intrusion through compromised roofing, damaged flashing, or broken windows.
  • Siding that has cracked, dented, or been torn away by high winds.
  • Gutter systems that have been bent, clogged, or pulled from the fascia.
  • Structural concerns stemming from impact or prolonged moisture exposure.

When water enters a home through storm damage, it can create a secondary problem on top of the original. That is why the team also provides Water Damage Repair Service as part of a comprehensive storm response, addressing moisture intrusion before mold or rot can take hold. What Does the Storm Damage Restoration Process Look Like?

The restoration process follows a clear, structured path so homeowners always know what to expect. Here is what typically happens after you call Greater Dayton Construction Group:

  1. Emergency contact and dispatch — a team member is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, to take your call and send help.
  2. On-site assessment — a trained estimator arrives to evaluate the full scope of storm damage across the roof, exterior, and interior of the property.
  3. Emergency stabilization — temporary protective measures such as tarping or board-up may be applied to stop further damage while permanent repairs are planned.
  4. Insurance coordination — GDCG works directly with your insurance carrier to document damage accurately and support your claim through the process.
  5. Full restoration and closeout — repairs and reconstruction are completed by the same team, followed by a final review and written warranty.

Each project is assigned a dedicated Project Manager who maintains communication from start to finish, keeping homeowners informed and reducing stress at every stage.

Why Dayton Homeowners Trust Greater Dayton Construction Group

Greater Dayton Construction Group has served the Miami Valley since 1987, building familiarity with regional building types, seasonal weather patterns, and the specific vulnerabilities that Dayton-area homes face after severe storms. That local knowledge can make a meaningful difference in how efficiently a project moves from damage assessment through full reconstruction.

The company’s single-source model means there is no need to coordinate a roofer, a general contractor, and a water mitigation company separately. One team, one point of contact, and one consistent standard of workmanship handle every phase, which may also help streamline the insurance claims process.

For homeowners dealing with fire-related damage alongside storm damage, the team’s fire and smoke damage restoration services are also available as part of a full-service response.

Does Storm Damage Restoration Cover Insurance Claims?

Most standard homeowners insurance policies may cover storm-related damage from events such as hail, wind, and falling trees. Greater Dayton Construction Group has extensive experience working alongside insurance adjusters and carriers to help ensure damage is documented thoroughly and claims are handled as efficiently as possible.

How Quickly Should Storm Damage Be Addressed?

Storm damage should be addressed as soon as it is safe to do so. Water can begin causing mold growth within 24 to 48 hours of intrusion, and structural damage may worsen with each subsequent rain event. Acting quickly may significantly reduce overall repair costs and restoration timelines.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We work for you! You are the customer. We are committed to restoring your home and returning it to its pre-loss condition — while making the process as seamless as possible.

Your Project Manager will be your primary point of contact throughout the restoration of your home. You can contact your Project Manager by phone, email, or text. They will review the best way to communicate with you during your project.

Your Project Manager is responsible for selecting and coordinating all workers assigned to your project. They will be able to answer any questions you may have regarding the different phases and schedules for your project.

An insurance deductible is the homeowner’s financial responsibility for repair costs. Deductibles are normally collected by your Estimator at the time of contract signing. However, depending on the insurance carrier, situations may vary.

You, the homeowner. However, your insurance provider will cover any additional utility charges incurred from the project. For example: if your electric bill is typically $60.00 per month and during your project it increases to $100.00, you are responsible for the “typical” $60.00 and insurance will pay the additional $40.00.

You are a very important part of the restoration process. During the restoration process, you have two very important functions: communication and product selections. Communication is a very important part of your project.

Communication can reduce any stress you may feel and also help eliminate any delays or possible errors. Product selections, or the specifications for your project, are also a very important part of the restoration process. These selections can often have long lead times, which can adversely affect the length of your project. The sooner these items are selected, the more efficiently your restoration project will progress and the better opportunity we will have to deliver your home per the agreed schedule.

A timeline schedule is an outline specific to each restoration. Its purpose is to track and maintain each phase of your project and the overall progress. You will be provided a timeline schedule for your project by your Project Manager shortly after your pre-construction meeting. This timeline schedule will serve as an “at a glance” tool to monitor the completion of specific tasks throughout the construction process.

Work revisions, material upgrades, or changes to the original specifications / selections are called Change Orders. Your Project Manager will provide you with an estimate of the requested changes and the impact to the schedule. Once the Change Order is approved, and the costs for the changes are received, the work will be completed.

While every attempt will be made to complete your project on time, there are several things that can negatively impact the provided timeline sched-ule. A few of the most common reasons are:

  •   Weather – The weather will have a definitive impact on all exterior phases of the construction process.
  •   Material Availability – Some material items take longer to be delivered than others. Customer selections and determining the project specifications as soon as possible will help minimize delays.
  •   Inspections – On occasion, your repairs will require inspections by the local municipality, and we have limited control over their schedules.
  •   Change Orders – Any alterations to the original specifications may require us to stop construction to approve a change order. One small change can affect multiple trades and ultimately the schedule.
  •   Supplements – Supplement is the insurance industry’s word for Change Order. If supplements arise due to unforeseen conditions, they could also impact the schedule.

Your safety is very important to us. We suggest that you schedule a weekly meeting with your Project Manager. They can walk you through your home and answer any questions you might have regarding the construction process.

Once the restoration process is complete, your Project Manager will schedule a meeting with you to review a “close-out” packet and obtain a certificate of completion. The close-out packet includes items such as product manuals, service agree-ments, product warranties and our material and workmanship warranty information. Once you have reviewed the closeout documents, we will need a signed certificate of completion for the insurance company and to close the construction process.

Call the Emergency Responce Team (ERT) for items that need immediate attention (i.e. roof leaks or water leaks). For other items covered by our warranty but do not need immediate attention, please call your Project Manager to schedule a visit to review the items. If your Project Manager is not available, please contact our Main Office at 937-426-3577.
